First we would like to thank Mr. DeJong for being our guest speaker at our HSA meeting last Thursday. Mr. DeJong is the middle school gifted education teacher. He came to us to speak about MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) testing scores in both math and reading, what the scores of the MAP test measure and how they are used to help our students. You can read more about this in our meeting minutes along with an update from Dr. Matsanka and from each of our grade reps. 

With help from a few student council members, we have started counting coins collected from the Coin Challenge. You all have done an amazing job bringing in coins! Keep them coming. Final count will be done after spring break. We will then announce the three winning connections classes, one from each grade, who collected the most coins. Good luck to all!

Thank you to Joelyn Foster, the HSA teacher/staff appreciation coordinator, for putting together an amazing spread for the teacher and staff appreciation breakfast. You did a wonderful job. Our teachers and staff are always so thankful.

We are looking to fill the following positions/committees: Co-chair, receiving treasurer, rising 8th grade parent rep, spirit wear coordinator, fundraising coordinator, passive fundraising committee, and hot chocolate bar/ teacher staff luncheon committee. With the gym classes starting, your child may go to the front office to purchase gym shirts. They are $5 each. Cash or Check (payable to SHMS) accepted.
