District-wide Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service

On Monday, January 16, 2023, 8:30am - 12:30 pm, all are invited to attend the district and community-wide celebration of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service at the middle school gymnasium. The MLK Jr. Day of Service celebrates and honors the civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy of service, equality, and selflessness. This family-friendly event will include community service, educational activities, and performances. For more information visit www.wssd.org/mlk.

The middle school HSA will have a table during this event. They will continue the efforts of the 6th grade class by putting together "Spoonful of Kisses" treats (see image below). Please stop by our table to help us make these Valentine treats which will be donated to the Fair Acre nursing home residents.

We look forward to seeing you!

SHMS School-wide MLK Jr. Day of Service

On January 13, Martin Luther King Jr. Day of service, our students will be involved in various activities throughout and outside the school.

8th graders will be headed to various places throughout and outside the district. The 8th grade chorus will sing at CADES, some students will sort out toys and clothing at City Team, some will play Quizzo and make crafts at the Chester Senior center, while others read stories, make crafts or play games at other places. Make sure to pack a bag lunch for your student. Students may also request a bag lunch from the cafeteria that day.

Over the last few days, the 7th grade class collected hundreds of tennis balls and many old t-shirts. If you have any used/old t-shirts please send them in with your student by the 12th. T-shirts will be used to create dog pull toys which will be donated to the Providence Animal Shelter.

Our 6th graders have a fun filled day planned for MLK Jr. Day as well. Projects will include creating cards and assembling comfort kits for Headstrong cancer patients, making cards for active duty soldiers, making "Spoonful of kisses" Valentine's treats for Fair Acre residents and working on classroom murals.

Thank you to all who have donated items, purchased pretzels in order to purchase some supplies, which enabled the classes to purchase supplies and who will be chaperoning at the various 8th grade service project locations.

Direction Donation Campaign 2023

Dear SHMS HSA families,

First and foremost, we want to thank all who donated to the HSA during our Fall campaign. With your support we have been able to host a few teacher/staff coffees and a hot chocolate bar, supply treats for the 6th grade turkey trot, host Morning at the Middle School, and help with the purchase of extra Panther Pride t-shirts along with the PBIS School Signage.

With the second half of the year well underway we still need your help in order to support upcoming school projects and activities that enrich student life, as well as staff appreciation efforts and community events.

We would like to continue with our Direct Donation campaign so that we may help support events such as 8th grade end of year celebration, yearbooks for students in need, and 6th and 7th grade celebrations. We also planning on supporting efforts such as the career day luncheon, Art Goes to School, the end-of-year teacher luncheon and providing PBIS rewards and prizes.

So far we have raised $4139.03. Please consider sending in a donation as it is tax-deductible and will directly benefit the students & staff at SHMS.  For 2023 contributions, check with your employer to see if they offer donation-matching.  You may make an online donation via PayPal or QR code, or you can drop off or mail cash/check (payable to “SHMS HSA”) attention “SHMS HSA Treasurer” at the main office (200 S. Providence Rd. Wallingford. PA 19086).

Other ways you can help support the HSA is by purchasing spirit wear through our online school store, earning cash for our school by scanning your receipts and using the BoxTops 4 Education app, and making a purchase through AmazonSmile. Thank you for supporting the SHMS HSA!

Warmly,

SHMS HSA Officers
