Let's talk about MS sports with SHMS Athletic Director Paul Tagliaterra!!

Our sports season begins in September when school starts.  We have 3 seasons:  Fall, Winter, and Spring. Depending on numbers we, unfortunately, have to cut students to keep our team at a manageable and safe number.

Our Fall sports consist of Football- there are two teams and each team goes according to weight.  We also have 7th and 8th grade teams for Volleyball, Field Hockey, Boys and Girls Soccer, as well as Cross Country for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys and girls

Practices will be held every day after school on the fields behind the MS and football teams practice across the street on what is called the Dog Leg.

Game days vary so I can't tell what team plays on what specific day.  A schedule will be given to each student so parents can plan accordingly.  Since our practices are here at the school, we would provide transportation to home or as close as possible.  Parents can pick up their child after practice if they wish to do so and practices usually end at about 4:50-5:00PM.

On game day, we would transport the teams to and from the games.  Parents may take their child home, but they must fill out a travel release form and it must be for extenuating circumstances.

The school will provide uniforms which the student is responsible for if it is lost or damaged or stolen.  All other equipment with the exception of football will be the responsibility of the student.

Also, a PIAA Physical form must be filled out before any student can participate in sports here at the MS.

In September, an announcement will be made as to when and where and what time an interest meeting will be held for the sport your child is interested in playing.

Our other sports are as follows:

Winter:  Wrestling for 7th and 8th graders one team, Basketball 7th and 8th graders for boys and girls separate teams.

Spring:  Girls Lacrosse for 7th and 8th graders separate teams, Boys Lacrosse for 7th and 8th graders separate teams, Softball for 7th and 8th graders usually just one team, Baseball for 7th and 8th graders separate teams and Track for 7th and 8th grade boys one team and 7th and 8th grade girls one team.

Finally, if you buy your child's equipment, make sure it has the NOC-Sae seal on it; otherwise the official will not allow them to play.  These pieces of equipment that you purchase must be re-certified each year with a new NOC-Sae seal.

If you have any other questions, get back to me and I will be glad to answer them for you.
